Friday Luncheon Discussion Club
Founded in 1920, the Friday Luncheon Discussion Club (FLDC) is one of Ottawa’s longest-running civic organizations, bringing together retired leaders and professionals committed to lifelong learning, civic engagement, and philanthropy. The Club began meeting at the YMCA’s Metcalfe Street location in 1929 and, when the YMCA relocated to Argyle Avenue in the 1970s, continued the journey with alongside its longstanding community partner in the new location. Collectively, FLDC members have contributed more than $500,000 through annual campaigns, monthly giving, and ongoing support, helping ensure people of all ages can access YMCA programs regardless of financial circumstances. The FLDC’s greatest legacy is the enduring culture of philanthropy and community leadership it continues to inspire.
