Members of AFP Ottawa’s leadership team recently had the opportunity to participate in the AFP Canada Leadership Retreat in Halifax, Nova Scotia, joining chapter leaders from across the country for a few days of learning, collaboration, and thoughtful discussion about the future of the fundraising profession.

The retreat offered an inspiring look at the innovative work taking place within AFP chapters nationwide. While each chapter serves a distinct community, many are navigating similar opportunities and challenges. The gathering created valuable space to exchange ideas, share lessons learned, and explore practical approaches that can strengthen local chapters and better support members.

The AFP Ottawa team was especially energized by the openness and generosity of fellow volunteer leaders. Conversations about governance, member engagement, sponsorship, professional development, and chapter sustainability highlighted the value of learning from one another and working collaboratively across regions.

The experience was a powerful reminder that AFP Ottawa is part of a broader national network committed to advancing ethical, inclusive, and effective fundraising. The leadership team returned inspired, connected, and excited to bring new ideas and perspectives back to the Ottawa fundraising community.
